CALCHAQUI VALLEYS (2D/1NT)
Day 1: departure from Salta city towards south, through Route 68 along Lerma Valley whose points of interest are Chicoana, Quebrada del Escoipe, Cuesta del Obispo (road with abundant curves), Piedra del Molino (highest point of the route at 3384 m.s.), Los Cardones National Park and Tin-Tin straight. Arrival to Cachi at lunch time. The trip continues down Route 40 to admire mountainous landscapes with towns of great enchantment. Bordering the Calchaquí River, we can observe historical towns such as Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, San Carlos and Animana. By the end of the afternoon we arrive to Cafayate. Overnight. Day 2: after lunch we return to Salta through Quebrada de las Conchas (Shells’ ravine) visiting the peculiar rock formations caused by rain and wind, such as The Amphitheatre or The Devil´s Throat. We arrive to Salta after crossing the Lerma Valley.
A guided hike around dazzling lakes, waterfalls, rivers and forests of native ñires. Heritage and age-old stories: -Sail across Lago Argentino among the iceberg clusters to reach Estancia Cristina. -Join an expert guide as you embark on an exciting journey. Hike to the stunning Cascada de Los Perros. -Visit the Heritage Museum to delve into the rich history of the area. -Take a break for a delicious Family Style lunch at the Quincho. Wilderness hike: we will hike uphill towards Cascada de Los Perros along the semi-arid ecotone, reaching hidden spots that reveal the landscape from Lago Argentino to Lago Pearson. Historical hike: The expedition continues along Río Caterina, past the Noria, and to the chapel near Estancia Cristina. We will also visit the Museum that recounts the pioneers’ history in this remote land.
By national route 237 with direction to the east we arrive to the Limay River, where the typical landscape of the patagónic steppe is observed. At this point there is the detour that takes National Route 231 to Villa La Angostura, a route that involves skirting the Huemul Arm of Lake Nahuel Huapi, where the traveler will be surrounded by cypress forests, which will gradually give way to the forest damp. The Villa is located on the north coast of Lake Nahuel Huapi and has different attractions: The ports in Bahía Mansa and Bahía Brava, the historic presidential residence El Messidor, and the La Asunción Chapel. Return to San Carlos de Bariloche. Only in Winter Season (June to August): you will enter Cerro Bayo, where you will have the possibility of taking a lift to get to know the slopes of skiers and paradores on the mountain. At this point we can choose between spending all day at the Ski Center (where we can do some activity such as skiing or snowboarding) or go down to lunch in the city of Villa la Angostura.
